We are delighted to announce the confirmed mentors for the inaugural cohort.
Odgers has been participating as a pioneer partner in the UK government-led “MUSUBI Initiative” and operates a mentorship programme for the next generation of female leaders connecting Japan and the UK.
This cohort brings together senior executives from Japan and the UK to provide one-on-one mentoring for women in director-level roles and above, helping them prepare for C-suite and board positions while fostering cross-cultural collaboration. The programme includes online and in-person sessions, as well as an annual networking event at the British Embassy in Tokyo.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., our co-host of the programme, as well as to London Business School, the Japan Society, and The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ) for introducing participants.

Messages from the Mentors

The best companies thrive with a diverse workforce and inclusive culture at all levels. Through this initiative and by sharing our experience, achievements and mistakes(!), we hope to play a small part in supporting future women leaders to develop the skills that will enable a long and successful career.

For me, mentorship is about investing in people. It’s about sharing what I’ve learned—mistakes, wins, and everything in between—so someone else can grow with a little more confidence. It’s not just about guidance; it’s about believing in someone and walking alongside them as they find their way. I’m delighted to be part of this programme—it’s a privilege to support and learn from such inspiring individuals.

An individual or organization that does not embrace all talent and individuals available will gradually end up behind competition. Talent is not related to gender, background, nationality or age and a leader is wise to create a culture fully exploiting the full ability of the whole team and the benefits of diversity. This initiative is an excellent one focusing on an obvious need to help nurture the significant female leadership developing in Japan.

I am honoured & privileged to serve as a Mentor for the MUSUBI Mentoring Program, in partnership with the British Embassy in Tokyo. Supporting the advancement and visibility of Japan’s next generation of female leaders is both a privilege and a strategic imperative. As Japan enters a pivotal era of female leadership transformation, I look forward to working alongside exceptional women — leveraging our collective experience to expand their influence, sharpen their leadership acumen, and accelerate meaningful impact across industries.

A six-month mentorship program designed to empower women leaders to step into their next stage. With the guidance of experienced mentors, participants will clarify their career challenges and cultivate authentic leadership. Through dialogue and peer exchange, we’ll gain fresh perspectives and renewed confidence.

This initiative between Japan and the UK will help unlock great leadership talent and support the diversity in leadership required for businesses to be successful.

At a time of high geopolitical uncertainty and fast-moving change to world systems, the need for diverse points of view, ways of thinking, problem solving and decision making has never been more critical, from a business risk management perspective. The Musubi Program is a welcome and timely initiative.

By connecting the dots across geographies, I hope to find both commonalities and different perspectives on how we can embrace opportunities as well as take on challenges in this changing world. We are all aiming self-led growth but at the same time there is so much we can do to support each other.
