Recruitment Scam Notice

We value your trust and are committed to promoting awareness and providing protection to ensure a safe and secure experience with us.

It has come to our attention that there have been instances of scams and fraudulent communications circulating, impersonating Odgers.

We take this matter seriously and are committed to providing you with the information you need to protect yourself from these deceptive practices.

Types of recruitment scams and impersonations to watch out for:

Phishing Emails:  Scammers may send emails that appear to be from Odgers, often from third-party services (such as Gmail or Hotmail) asking for personal or financial information. Always verify the authenticity of the email address before engaging.

Fake Networking & Social Media Accounts:  Fraudulent social media profiles or pages may impersonate Odgers to gain your trust and request personal details, payments, or other sensitive information. Always verify the authenticity of our social media accounts before engaging.

Impersonation Calls & SMS Messages:  Scammers may call you pretending to be representatives of Odgers, offering special deals, services, or asking for payments. We do not make unsolicited calls for financial transactions or sensitive information.

1. SMS & WhatsApp Messages Scams

We want to alert candidates of an ongoing scam through a SMS provider, including WhatsApp: The sender impersonates a search firm, head-hunter or recruiter, promoting fake roles to obtain personal information for malicious action.

It is not our usual practice to use SMS or WhatsApp to initiate contact with you in this way, specifically if you have not had an established conversation with us or our consultants previously.

Signs to Look Out For:

  • Unknown or random phone numbers that are not connected to Odgers
  • Messages with a sense of urgency or threats
  • Links to suspicious websites or requests for personal information

Recommended Actions:

If you receive an SMS or WhatsApp message from someone claiming to represent Odgers and you suspect it may be fraudulent, please do not respond or click on any links. We recommend blocking the number and reporting the message as spam or a scam through your mobile provider or messaging platform.

We are investigating additional measures to help prevent these incidents from recurring. If you have any concerns about the legitimacy of a message, please contact your local Odgers consultant directly to verify the communication.

To help us investigate, please also forward or report any suspicious communications to help@odgers.com.

Report Scam to Provider via SMS:

  1. Forward suspicious text messages to your wireless provider by sending them to 7726 (SPAM)
  2. iOS iPhone: Open WhatsApp, tap Settings>Help>Contact Us.

Report Scam to WhatsApp:

  1. Android: open WhatsApp, hit More Options, and head to Settings>Help>Contact Us to submit a scam report.
  2. iOS iPhone: Open WhatsApp, tap Settings>Help>Contact Us.

2. Email Scams (Gmail, Hotmail)

We are aware of ongoing scam activity involving fraudulent emails impersonating Odgers and our consultants. These messages are typically sent from non-company domains (such as Gmail, Hotmail, or similar services) and may promote fake job opportunities or request personal information.

Signs to Look Out For:
  • Emails sent from addresses that do not end in @odgers.com
  • Requests for sensitive personal information (e.g. bank details, passport copies)
  • Requests for payment, fees, or purchasing equipment
  • Pressure to move communication to personal email accounts or messaging apps (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, WhatsApp)
  • Poor spelling, unusual formatting, or inconsistent branding
  • Job offers that seem unsolicited or appear too good to be true

How to verify:

  • Only emails sent from @odgers.com are genuine
  • If in doubt, contact us directly using details from our official website
  • Do not rely on contact details provided within suspicious messages

Recommended actions to report:

  • Do not respond to or engage with the message
  • Do not click links or download attachments
  • Report the email to your email provider (e.g. mark as spam or phishing in Gmail, Outlook, or Hotmail)
  • Forward or report the communication to us at help@odgers.com
  • Delete the message after reporting

3. Fake LinkedIn Profile Connections

We want to alert candidates of an ongoing scam through LinkedIn. The sender creates fake LinkedIn profiles mimicking legitimate recruiters or firms. They may send connection requests and messages offering job opportunities within Odgers, or on behalf of our clients, asking for personal details.

Signs to Look Out For:

  • Profiles with incomplete information or low connection counts
  • Messages with spelling or grammar mistakes
  • Requests for financial information or purchases

Report Scam via LinkedIn:

If you suspect a scam, report it to us immediately. You can also report fraudulent LinkedIn profiles directly to LinkedIn, see their guidance here.

4 Top tips to protect yourself from scammers

  1. Verify the Sender: Check the sender's email address, domain, or social media handle. Make sure it matches our official channels and addresses.
  2. Double-Check URLs: Before clicking on any links in emails or messages, hover over them to verify they lead to our official website.
  3. Use Official Contacts: Reach out to us using the contact information provided on our official website to verify any suspicious communications.
  4. Do Not Share Personal Information: Never share sensitive information like passwords, credit card details, passport scans, or social security numbers in response to unsolicited communications.
