Member of the Management Board, Ukreximbank, Ukraine

Odgers partnered with Ukreximbank in Ukraine to identify an exceptional and internationally experienced Member of the Management Board, with Pavel Haskovec commencing the role in July 2024.

Ukreximbank, established in 1992, is a corporate bank centred on the development of export and import activities and is the largest bank by corporate loans in Ukraine.

What Is Your Background And What Attracted You To The Role?

I worked for a major part of my banking career with UniCredit Group, starting in the commercial side before moving over to the risk side of the business.

I have worked in many different countries over the course of my career, starting in Czechia, then I was a CRO Board member based in Kazakhstan and subsequently in Ukraine, and then later I was overseeing special projects in head offices in Vienna and also Milan.

I have had a relationship with Odgers for quite a long time and they knew I was motivated to return back to Ukraine. My wife is Ukrainian, and I also speak Ukrainian which was one of the many attractions to this role.

After the war started, I was sitting on the supervisory board of another Ukrainian bank and this only increased my desire to come back to Ukraine – in contrast to many who have left to go elsewhere in Europe. 

Odgers knew this because of our contact, and reached out to me when the opportunity became available as a possibility to fit my profile. 

What Are Your Ambitions And Goals For Your Role? 

My direct field is non-performing loans (NPL) of which, I frankly believe, Ukreximbank is currently the most active and innovative of the large banks in the market - I am working towards bringing the procedures up to a higher level, as well as developing our NPL ratios to the standards usual in other markets. 

How Was Your Journey With Odgers?

My collaboration with the team was really good. I was actually talking at one point with some of your competitors, but I felt Odgers’ approach, their close working relationship, and their advice and support, was above and beyond. I was really happy with them.
